Almost everybody wants to borrow money from time to time and it's smart to do your research before jumping into a big situation involving money. Did you know that when you borrow money you could also be reducing the amount of income taxes you have to pay to the government? Student Loans: You can, in many cases, deduct the interest you paid on the loan from your income taxes. The interest you pay on most school loans can only be deducted if you make under a certain amount of money, based on your individual filing status.

Home Mortgages: Most home mortgages are set up so that you can deduct the amount of interest you pay on the loan every year. For many taxpayers their home is the biggest purchase they ever make, and paying a home loan can actually be a good way to reduce the amount of money you owe on your federal taxes each year. Since most house loans are set up to be paid over 30 years, that means that buying a house can give you 30 years of potential tax benefits.

Home Equity Loans: If your house is more valuable now than when you bought it then you might be able to take out a home equity loan (sometimes called a HELOC) and deduct the interest you pay on that loan. There are some restrictions about how much of your loan's interest actually qualifies for a tax deduction. You can use a home equity loan for a number of things, you may be able to get additional tax credits by using the money for home improvements. In some case you can even earn tax deductions for using the money to improve your house's energy efficiency. A home equity loan used to improve your dwelling could eventually increase the value of your dwelling and give you even more equity in the long run. For some people part of the cost of a home equity loan can be balanced out with home remodeling tax credits.

Before you apply for any of these loans you may want to talk with your tax professional to make sure the tax benefits pertain to your individual situation. There are, of course, a lot of variables between these loans. Not everyone will be eligible for all the different tax credits that these loans may offer. Sometimes your income, the amount of money you want to borrow and the reason of the loan will limit the amount of money you can deduct from your taxes in any given year. Sometimes applying for the right kind of loan can literally save you thousands of dollars on your income taxes, so it's worth spending a little bit of time to look into what sort of tax deductions you are eligible for.

ACCELERATED PACING METHOD:

Various hand movements can cause acceleration of reading speed. We are about to introduce you to several hand movements that will accelerate your reading ability. Try each one and see which suits you best.

BASIC PACING:

The basic pacing movement uses your index finger of your dominant hand, i.e. right handed use right hand, to scan a line by running your finger under the type you are reading. Always turn the page with the unused, non-dominant hand. Don't move your head, keep it still.

The method is easy. You'll replace all your bad habits with one easily learned one: You'll use your pacing hand. Here's how to break each of these habits automatically while increasing your reading speed.

You'll read without sub-vocalizing, hearing it your mind.

To understand this concept, you must understand that your nemesis "The Babbler" is reading to you in silent speech and then it goes into your brain. New Years Resolutions: Finances

The United States is struggling with money with a shortage of it to go around. Not enough money is an issue for prospective and current students alike, as they want afford to go to college and be able to ccomplete their education. One of the things the country is struggling with is money. There seems to not be enough to go around these days. This can be a problem for students as they want to go to college and be able to afford it and for current students who want to continue pursuing their education. Try new ways to help plan ahead for the cost of of tuition and expenses.

With the new semester approaching, there are several ways a current college student can save money. With the new semester comes new classes, which means you have to buy new books. These books can add up to hundreds of dollars. One way to cut down these costs could be to buy all of your books used. Personally, I have found that I buy a book brand new and barely use it for class and when I sell it back, I get a fifth of what I paid for it. Trust me, buying used is the way to go. I have also found half.com to be my best friend when it comes to buying books. I usually get all my books for five classes for under $100 total. This will help you save a lot of money in the long run.

For those of you who like to go out dancing at the club, keep in mind that lifestyle can get expensive. I love to dance and would go dancing every night of the week if I could. Unfortunately, it costs money to just enter most clubs. My easy alternative is to gather a lot of my buddies and have a dance party in my dorm room. This allows me to save money for things I actually need and I am still entertained and get exercise like I went to a club.

On that note, you don't have to go out and have fancy dinners every night or spend a lot of money trying to find things to do. Instead, get your friends together for a game night and play board games such as Apples to Apples and Seven Deadly Sins-anything that seems fun and make your friends laugh! Also, you can make your own dinner for you and your friends instead of going out. I usually make pancakes for everybody. It's easy, cheap and delicious! There are a lot of things you can do to save money, so always look for the alternative!

For more expensive financial issues, there are some resources. Many scholarships are available for students to apply for to aid in tuition costs. Most of the time you must write an essay, but that is a lot better than paying $2,000 out of pocket for your education! Also, many of you are probably aware of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You are required to apply for it every school year and it tells how much federal aid you can get toward your school's tuition. It is best practice to fill this out as early as possible.

If you currently work, you should also start saving money just in case of emergencies. It comes in handy when you're in a money crunch.

Calendar - Which Calendar Do You Mean?

In the West, we tend to think that there is only one calendar, but there are dozens of them around the world. And what is more, there were probably hundreds of them previously. All defunct now either because ours is more accurate or because theirs did not fit in with our commercial way of life.

But that does not mean to say that people do not still use those old-fashioned, defunct calendars. Oh, no! Governments have given up their old, traditional national calendars, but in general, country folk still refer to them, even if they can no longer get hold of a printed version. I cannot go into all the calendars here, but I will mention half-a-dozen of them.

Lunar Calendar - There is some indication that early man used chips on bone to record or indicate the passage of time 25,000 years ago, probably calibrated by the Moon's phases. A calendar can be developed based on the lunar cycles; it creates a year of twelve months (the word 'month' is from the word 'moon'), but only 354 days, which is, eleven short of the time it takes the Earth to orbit around the Sun. The Chinese still use a version of the lunar calendar but they resolve this issue by inserting extra moths every now and then to bring 'time' back into alignment with the Sun.

Solar Calendar - The ancient Egyptians were the first people to employ a Solar Calendar, although it could justifiably be called a stellar calendar. The new year began for them when Sirius, the Dog Star, the brightest star in the night sky, rose in the same place as the Sun. This more often than not coincided with the flooding of the Nile. This calendar was of 365 days; twelve months of thirty days and five holy days. Therefore, it was only one quarter of a day off the true year. However, this meant that slowly but surely, the new year did not concur with the flood. Scientists have worked out that this calendar was adopted in either 4241 BC or 2773 BC.

Julian Calendar - In 46 BC , Julius Caesar realized that a number of parts of the empire were using different calendars, so he ordered the dating system to be unified. Sosigenes came up with a calendar of 365 days with an extra day every four years. Therefore, in 46 BC, the longest year on record, Caesar added days to the year to bring it back into alignment with the seasons. 46 BC was 445 days long! The immensity of the Roman Empire ensured that this calendar was the defacto calendar of the Western world.

Julian Day Count - In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII called into being a new calendar, but the year after that Joseph Justus Scaliger introduced a system of counting days, not years. It begins with 1 on January 1st 4713 BC. On this date the Julian and the lunar calendars and the Roman tax dating system all coincided; something that will next happen in 3267. January 1st 2001 was Julian day 2,451,913

Gregorian Calendar - from at least 730 AD, it was noticed that the year from vernal equinox to vernal equinox was short of the 365.25 days in a year. This had the consequence that the date of Easter was moving back. So he dropped 10 days from 1582 by jumping from October 4th to October 15th and proclaiming that century years would only be leap years if they were divisible by 400. Consequently, 1900 was not a leap year, but 2000 was. This is the calendar we still use today.

Before giving the ranking of the eight winners of the American Idol TV show, I would like to brief you guys something about the American Idol. This is one of the biggest and the most popular TV shows of the United States of America and is regarded as the show of the decade. This is a reality talent show where selected candidates from the entire country perform in front of a panel of judges. At the end of each season of American Idol, one candidate is chosen as the winner and also crowned as the American Idol for that year.

My obvious favorite of the entire American Idol series till date is Kelly Clarkson. Ever since its induction into the television media, I have never witnessed anyone to match Kelly's perfection. She has all that to be a superstar. She is beautiful, graceful and highly talented. Her voice is so cool and her singing talents are highly admired across the world and no wonder she was the winner of the first season of the American Idol series. The popularity chart of Kelly Clarkson is always on the exponential curve which is a clear indication of her talents.

It is time for the real and raw deal. We will discuss about the rankings of the eight winners of the American Idol TV show. The eight winners are Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasio Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, David Cook and Kris Allen respectively. All of these eight winners are unique in their own and my personal ranking of these elite members is not at all an indication of their talents. So, this list of ranking is not to offend anyone and is solely my personal ranking.

The first rank according to me is obviously Kelly Clarkson. She was the winner of the first edition of American Idol and let me tell you that this lady is a seasoned campaigner. She was easily the better of all the other participants in the first season and is also the better of all the other seven winners of the show. She is in a league of her own and is extremely talented. She is the undisputed American Idol according to me and I am hoping that the ninth edition will bring someone better than Kelly. The second place would go to Carrie Underwood, the season four winner. This lady too, was better than most of her competitors and deserves the number two spot. The third and fourth rank would go to David Cook and Kris Allen (season seven and eight winners) respectively. Both were equally good, but I feel that David has a slight edge over Kris.

The fifth rank would go to Mr. Ruben Studdard (season 2 winner). This guy is so cheerful and energetic that he will drive you crazy with his performances. According to me, the sixth rank would go to obviously go to Jordin Sparks. This lady needs special mention because of her charm and wits. I would place Fantasia Barrino at the number seven spot ahead of Taylor Hicks.

The'80's saw a lot of sci-fi Hollywood movies released each year, but none of these movies came close to being as great and magnificent as The Back to the Future movie. The movie was directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by him and Bob Gale. The king of sci-fi Hollywood movies, Steven Spielberg produced the movie.

The movie brought a whole new perspective to time travelling and changed the way people looked at or thought about time travel as earlier everyone only related time travel to the future. But in the movie Marty McFly who is the protagonist meets Dr. Emmet Brown who builds a time machine that takes them into the past and then back to the future.

People who lived in the 80's, kids and adults both, were totally entranced by this new concept and even today many think it is one of the most brilliant sci-fi movie ever. The movie starts with Michael J. Fox who plays Marty and his weird and eccentric friend Dr. Emmet Brown played by Christopher Lloyd trying to work on a futuristic looking car that can time travel.

Dr. Emmet Brown, who Marty refers to as 'Doc', experiments on a lot of different things but is never successful but after testing the time machine car on his dog he and Marty are excited about traveling into the future. But instead of the future due to some error Marty lands in past, in'55, where he gets to meet his parents in their teens. Marty needs to be very cautious as one wrong move in the past can put his existence in the future in jeopardy.

Most kids or adults who watch the movie even today feel that this movie was ahead of its time and is still thought by many as a true science fiction gem. The movie is not only packed with a great storyline and excellent graphics but also the acting is top class by all the stars. Even the dialogues and humor in the movie are unforgettable.

All scenes in the movie are thrilling but the one seen that many people can't erase from their memory is when Marty who is in the past, performs Johnny Be Good to a school crowd who are there for a prom. No one has heard anything like that before and are completely blown away by the music and then stunned by the brilliance.

Doug Liman's The Bourne Identity is a very loose adaptation of Robert Ludlum's novel by the same name. Jason Bourne, the principal character of the film, is actually an anti - hero and due to Matt Damon's memorable performance he has become one of our favorite screen assassin. Critics had already cried out that the film will be a major disaster but I do believe that these people might have gone to hiding now. The Bourne Identity is a major Box Office hit. The film is a highly entertaining action thriller.

The film shows that on a stormy night a young man is pulled out from the cold waters of the Mediterranean Sea by a fishing boat. They all think that the man is dead. But an over inquisitive fisherman with a scalpel finds two bullets in the back and a mini laser device in the hip of the 'dead' man. The laser revealed a Swiss Bank Account number. But the fisherman was wrong. The wet man is not dead and soon finds himself in Zurich. The young man searches through a bank vault and ultimately stumbles upon something that has his name, Jason Bourne (Matt Damon).

As he rummages through all the things he also finds several passports, each one of them with his picture and a huge pile of cash. In the US Embassy Jason learns a few other things too. He has a love interest - Marie who is also his travel assistant and the fact that some guys are after him to kill him. Jason decides to search through the streets of Paris for details about his past life and his true identity. In this mission he is only armed with the cash and his own Martial Arts skills. His love interest, Marie, is always by his side in his exploits. Very soon he finds out that there are two assassination plots devised by CIA.

The Bourne Identity movie is a highly entertaining one and keeps you absorbed with its superb car chases and action sequences. There is nothing clichd about this movie and I can bet that you will find it hard to take your eyes off the screen eve for a second. The good thing about the film is that it does on dwell on the romance between Julia and Matt Damon. The indications are self-explanatory. One day Willy makes an announcement that he has hidden 5 golden tickets in the Wonka bars. The five children who get those tickets will tour the chocolate factory and one lucky winner will win a special prize.

Charlie was really lucky as he found the fifth ticket in one of the Wonka bars. He chose his Grandpa Joe to be with him inside the factory. Joe used to work with the factory before it hit rough weather. So the four winners, Charlie and Grandpa Joe enter the factory for the journey of a lifetime.

Charlie was pretty well behaved throughout the tour but the same cannot be said of the other children. They were very naughty and the inevitable happened. Those four were politely shown the door by Willy and Charlie became the winner of the surprise prize - they keys to the chocolate factory. Initially Charlie refused the prize as he was not in favor of staying separate from his family. Wonka too understood how he himself has missed his family while he was too busy with the chocolate factory. He understood that Charlie is the right person to take care of the chocolate factory. On realizing this he allowed Charlie to bring his entire family inside the premises. So we get a wonderful story with a very happy ending.

The film is a big hit with the children. After a long time the children has some good movie to look forward to. We can safely say that despite the insipid performance by Johnny Depp the film manages to set the cash registers ringing. Depp should have given a much better performance but he looks totally disinterested for the better part of the movie.

Among the performances, the less said about Johnny Depp the better. Is he the same Johnny from the Pirates of the Caribbean series? His acting so pathetic that you may be tempted to think that he was not paid at all for this movie! Freddie Highmore as Charlie Bucket, however, proves a better actor than Depp, at least in this movie.

DIY Homemade Solar Panels

As energy prices rise, it is always good to look for cheaper alternatives to slash bills. After initial costs, solar power is energy for free. Getting the kit installed can be pricey though; here are a few tips to help build your own solar panel.

Ahead of anything else, it is important to ensure you have the right tools and equipment. Most importantly of course are the solar cells themselves; spend some time selecting which will be best for you.

There are a few other items needed. Plywood, a length of 1 x1, copper wire, a diode line, batteries and Plexiglas will be required for construction. You will also need a circular saw, screws and screwdriver, caulk, outdoor paint, soldering kit and glue.

The first step will be to draw a grid, suitable to your solar cells, on the plywood, (use them as a template). Having determined the size of the panel by this, you can cut the plywood to size and the fun can really start.

Take your 1 x 1 and cut to size; determined by the size of your plywood panel. The panel should be attached to these using your screws, and applying suitable amounts of caulk and painted with outdoor paint to protect from the elements.

Before applying the cells, they need to be soldered together; using tabs at the back to attach one to the other. This work needs to be very careful, as the cells are very delicate at this point. Once in a suitable series, they can be applied with glue onto your plywood grid.

The copper wire should now be attached from the cell to the electrical system and batteries. To ensure no power is lost in the opposite direction, a diode line will also need to be attached at this point.

The final step is to entirely weatherproof the panel through Plexiglas over the cells. Secure in place with caulk and allow to dry. You have now managed to build your own solar panel.

My friends and I are seniors in college and we decided that we want to go to Mardi gras this year in New Orleans when it comes up in a few weeks. A lot of us went our freshman year of college but we are now older and can do a lot of the things we couldn't before so we are all excited to go and have a good time.

There were a few different ways that we considered to get there. There are about 25 of us going so flying commercially doesn't really seem like a great idea and would be such a hassle trying to get tickets and everyone there in a big group sounds miserable. We also thought about taking a coach bus but a 15 hour drive there to be there for only a day or 2 and then 15 hours back is crazy. So we decided on chartering a private jet and we are all really excited about it.

Although it was a little bit more expensive (surprisingly not by too much) the private jet was definitely the right choice for us. This way we have a lot less stress and also get to spend more time there. We can get right there and right back to school after and we can spend the time there relaxing instead of on a bus or having to worry about going through the hassle of the airport.

Last time my friends and I went to Mardi gras we had such a great time. Although many of us aren't really into the gross parts of the mardi gras scene (if you have been there you know what I am talking about), we like to still watch and relax and have a great time. It is a great break from all of the school work and a way to go somewhere for the weekend that isn't full of stress (like job interviews).

We can't wait for the trip to come and our first private jet charter experience! It is amazing to be a college senior and have this last semester to be able to go out and travel a little bit and not really have a lot of responsibilities. We can just kick back and relax and have a great time with all of the other people who are breaking from reality for the weekend to celebrate Mardi gras.

To use as fertilizer, the liquid fish emulsion is diluted in water and sprayed on plants or used to water the soil.

Fish emulsion is a fairly mild liquid fertilizer, but it can burn if applied too strong, so it's important to follow mixing directions. It has a definite fishy odor, but the odor goes away in a day or two after application. Some manufacturers add a deodorizer to their products. Fish emulsion must be used when it's mixed; it can't be stored after it is diluted. By the way, the undiluted liquid must be stored at room temperature because it degrades if it gets too hot.

Fish emulsion is made from fish waste that comes largely from fishmeal manufacturing and fish canning. Because fish are not caught specially for making liquid fertilizer, fish emulsion does not contribute to the depletion of fish supplies. On the other hand, the owner of the farm, Tweety's purchased a machine to make chicken pies and intend to cook all the chickens of the farm. But were Ginger and her friends' fortunate enough to fly away from the farm? Did she escape or she too became one of those 'chicken pies'? The answers to all these and many more can be found when you watch the film.

The Chicken Run movie is a family entertainer and is a hit in every single country. The kids just love to watch the antics of the chickens as they create a number of humorous scenes in the movies. The film itself has a healthy mix of humor and intellectual parodies. The fun element of the movie gets pronounced once Rocky enters the scene. Mel Gibson weaves magic as the voice of Rocky and Julia Sawalha as the voice of Ginger is very enterprising. There is hardly any part of the movie that needs improvement.

Meanwhile, Olga gets herself a job as a cleaner cum nanny in a house where the children of the house and the housewife treat her with contempt and fire her peremptorily with a day's notice. She does not have a nursing licence therefore becomes a cleaner at a geriatric hospital where she cannot come near the patients or touch them. Here too she is not spared, the ward-sister is spiteful and constantly keeps bullying her by she finds comfort with Erich, a patient who is kind toward her.

The film is shot in winter, therefore differences between of the housing conditions in affluent Austria and desolate Ukraine housing estates are blaring. This is a movie that cannot be watched with children as it depicts the sex industry very close to reality, where the rich use and exploit prostitutes for their own entertainment and pleasure. One would hope that what I am about to say is mostly made up, but unfortunately it is not. Because of a variety of calls from people claiming to be environmentally concerned, I am noticing that environmental issues are hardly supersede convenience and cost. One memorable comment came when the person said, "I don't mind being environmental as long as it doesn't cost me anything." The best response for the situation was that irresponsibility is costing us all the time. The price of doing nothing is almost never zero. When is the price of not going to work? What is the price of refusing to fill the gas tank when the needle is on empty? What is the price of neglecting our future when they ultimately require an attorney to get them out of their latest jam?

I realized that there is a "Green Pig" Syndrome (GPS) in the world today. The Green Pig Syndrome is sort of like greenwashing except that it means that we don't want our environmental responsibility to intrude into our lives. You see, you can paint a pig green, but it is still a pig! A pig will do absolutely nothing different than it has always done before. It will squeal and complain when things don't work like he wants, and it will consume as much as he can in a day, hoping only for another day to do the same.

Americans love convenience, luxury, and excess. Constant gratification isn't such a bad way to go, wouldn't you say? If there were no consequences to how we lived life, one might suppose that everyone in the world would be happier. Or, at least we think that would be best. Like it or not, we live in a consequential world, and every action has an equal or opposite reaction. The simple task of depositing your trash in the next trash bin or throwing it out of the window has negative consequences on our environment. We can survive what you think to be a minimal incident, but I have been in foreign countries where trash lines the streets and builds in the alleys.

The Green Pig Syndrome is a values placement process. They see only what is right in front of them, and they are driven by their appetites. In reality no one wants the life of a pig. Life does not consist of what can be done today no matter what the real cost might be in the long term. That definition would be the Green Pig's attitude, however. In our example, they are not long term thinkers. So, they never worry about what will happen tomorrow. Pigs, I am told, are relatively near-sighted but are considered the fourth most intelligent animal in the world.

The fact of the matter is you can paint a pig green, but that does not change the way it thinks. Anyone can paint themselves as environmentally-concerned, but how many things are they willing to change? The accomplishment of the environmental program is not just in constructing Green buildings or buying Green products. Those embracing these solutions are merely "Green by Proxy." The real shock is felt when Green is made a part of the lifestyle. It could be considered behavior alteration, but it is the necessary alteration for our collective future. We need not to "Go Radical" in our conversion in to the Green World. It is a learning process that allows for people to grow into a better environmental citizen.

The reality about Green is it is not free, and it will certainly intrude on our convenience-oriented world. We cannot make the necessary changes without changing the behavior of each and every individual. It will not be expedient, relaxed, or pleasant. It is, however, necessary for the world that we live in today. Don't be overly troubled. This is not a call to monastic living, moving into a grass hut, or trading your car in for a bicycle. It is the challenge that we all face no matter if it is for an individual or business. The problem is not as violent as a war, or as immediately pressing as a hurricane. Environmental problems are more like the rising tide without enough high ground to keep ourselves out of the encroaching waves. Slow disasters still deserve our attention, even though we are not up to our necks in trouble yet.

The cure for the Green Pig Syndrome is not an H1N1 shot. If you are ready to be both human and a humanitarian, it is time that we all decided to make the changes without concern for the cost or difficulty. There is a cost to Go Green, and there are simple ways to transition to Green Practices that are often mildly intrusive. Some Green practices will cut costs. We can be Green humans who have the cleverness to see the future and change what we are doing today.

The Beginning Of America's Love Affair With Auto Racing Started On Long Island New York

I recently took a trip back in time to Long Island NY's past! No I was not in a Delorean. I was actually in a 1929 Model A Ford,It was one of many in a pack of Model A Fords.My trip back in time was hosted by members of the Model A Ford Club of Long Island. The Club Established in 1959 is one of the oldest and largest Model A Clubs in the U.S. The Trip took me back in time to Long Islands distant past,Way Back before the LIE back before even the Northern and Southern State Parkways.All the way back to the glory days of William K. Vanderbilt Jr's Long Island Motor Parkway. The Motor Parkway or the LIMP has been forgotten by many.Portions of it can still be found across the Island some parts are even still in use now going under other names. I must admit I knew almost nothing of the Long Island Motor Parkway before this trip back but as I learned about its history and how it was a major part of shaping the Island we all know and love today, I became very interested in learning more and I would like to share with you a little of what I have learned.

The history of William K. Vanderbilt Jr's Motor Parkway began on June 6th 1908 when its construction started. It was one of the first concrete roads in the Nation and it was the first to use Bridges and over passes so as to not have any intersections. The Motor parkway reached its almost full length of 45 miles from Queens to Lake Ronkonkoma in 1911 with 65 Bridges and many twists and turns.(There was a 2 and a Half mile western extension built in 1928)

The Motor Parkways History of racing is that of legend and still remembered by many Long Island race fans, William K.Vanderbilt Jr was an avid race fan and racer. He often raced in America and France. Disappointed by the lack of Americans winning any of the races he started the Vanderbilt Cup races in 1904 here on Long Island. The race was an international event and would pit 16 Drivers against each other for the prize of the $2000 Silver Cup which was designed by Tiffany & Co.The Cup was the first major trophy in American auto racing. The Races where first held on 30 miles of local roads in Nassau County.These Races where the Beginning of America's love affair with auto racing.In 1906 when two spectators where killed and many others injured by a racing car on Jericho turnpike near the intersection of what is known today as NY Routes 106 and 107, Vanderbilt and friends soon came up with the idea for the Long Island Motor Parkway. The Cup Races where Successfully held on Long Island in conjunction with the Motor Parkway Until 1910 when four spectators where killed and twenty injured.

With the Cup races gone the Motor parkway became purely an access route with a toll of $2.00 and was used mostly by New York's rich looking to hit the party circuit or to go for Sunday Drives and of course by those just looking to drive really fast.The Motor parkway was a privately owned toll road with no speed limit, No Commercial Traffic and because it was privately owned it was off limits to law enforcement. During Prohibition the Parkway gained a reputation as a rum runners road as bootleggers started using the road to transport alcohol.In 1917 the toll was lowered to $1.00 and when more Drivers started using the Motor Parkway to travel across Long Island the speed limit was reduced to 40 mph and local Police where aloud to begin patrolling the parkway to improve traffic safety. An estimated 150,000 cars per year used the Motor parkway at its prime. There where 12 toll lodges along the parkway and the toll lodges have a great story all their own. The Long Island Motor Parkway Continued on until Easter Sunday,April 16th 1938 when it was forced to close. The Motor Parkway even after reducing its toll again to only 40 cents was No longer able to Compete with Robert Moses State of the art Toll free Northern State Parkway. After its Closer the Motor Parkway was split up and sold off, Many of its Bridges destroyed and roads forgotten.Although some Remaining Sections of this Historic Parkway like the 13 Mile eastern most Section in Suffolk still remain in use Most of the Parkway and its History has gone forgotten until recent years.

Members of the Model A Ford Club of Long Island had known about a section of the Long Island Motor Parkway with one of its Bridges still standing hidden away behind Old Bethpage Village and Restoration on Round Swamp Road in Old Bethpage Where the Club holds its Monthly meetings. For those of you who don't know Old Bethpage Village and Restoration is a pre-Civil War Long Island Village with more than 55 historic buildings and a place where anyone of us can travel back in time for the day.I'm sure most of you out there from Long Island will remember it from field trips back in your School days.Well It is all still there with its same historic Magic and those old fashion Sodas and Candies you remember. I have found Old Bethpage to be the perfect place for a first Date! It will not only take you back threw time but it will make you feel like a Kid all over again. In the early Months of 2007 the members of the Model A Ford Club of Long Island started Clearing away what time and neglect had covered up. Then in May 2007 after much hard work the Members of the Model A Ford Club of Long Island got together at Old Bethpage Village and Restoration and took the first Cruise since its closing on their own private piece of the Motor Parkway and Long Islands History. Mark Adler and his 1931 Model A Coop had the Honor of leading the Group and being the first the travel on it! Long Island has some great History and We must always remember We need to save our Historic Buildings and Land marks!!!

90210 are one of those shows that are always present in my TV schedule list. This dramatic teenage series has been co-created by Rob Thomas, Jeff Judah and Gabe Sachs. Darren star played a key role in creating this series and fetching a license for it. The recent series of 90210 that was launched after a 2-hour premier event is now a part of CBS Productions.

90210 are considered as an addendum of Beverly Hills. However Darren Star wasn't officially included in this project. There are many things that are dissimilar between the characters of the two series, however one can find the familiar preface that showcases two teenagers who have recently moved from the Midwest to Beverly Hills.

When that happens, failure is almost always the end result. In fact, 58 percent of the students who start their freshman year never make it graduation. Some drop out; others just can't make the grade. There are a few pretty obvious ways to avoid falling into that 42 percent, but since comprehension is a key part of learning, let's review:

1. Be prepared for an adult workload. High school is nothing compared to what is expected of you at the college level, so if you honestly don't feel ready to buckle down you might consider working for a year or two before taking it on.

2. Don't be afraid to experiment until you find a course of study that will really hold your interest. If you declare a major early and find that it doesn't enthrall you, see what else is out there. You owe it to yourself to look around to see what you are interested in doing for the rest of your life.

3. Stay on top of your studies. It takes a daily effort not to let your 'to do' list snowball on you. Every class, every lecture, every assignment and project has a cumulative effect on your final grade and you don't want to be playing catch up during finals week. Make sure that you ask questions along the way if you're unsure of something. On the other hand, if you've nailed a concept but see that a classmate is struggling, offer to help. You see, as you explain it you'll be reinforcing the learning for yourself as well.

4. Keep socializing in moderation. While meeting new people and hanging out is a great way to blow off steam, excessive partying has certainly derailed many a college education. Keep in mind that you can meet people by playing sports, too, and the after effects won't deter you from going to class the next morning.

Amazon's Kindle has wireless connectivity, Sony's Daily Edition lets you lend e-books to your family and friends, the Nook has a color screen, etc.

However, it may be worth considering that e-book readers may very possibly be the biggest thing to happen to reading - and publishing - since the invention of the printing press by Gutenberg in 1440. The invention of the printing press allowed books to be mass produced on paper instead of parchment or vellum. It reduced the cost of books and, quite literally, put them in the hands of the common man.

Since then, there have really been very few changes in the way that books are read. Certainly we have seen changes in printing technology - computers and word processing software have made the existing process more efficient and cost effective. However, the end result has been much the same. We sit and read books which consist of text printed on paper.

As a consequence of the end product, publishers had certain restrictions. They have been producing a physical product for years, which carries some level of cost and also needs to be delivered, either to a bookshop or possibly by direct mail to the customer's home.

The key thing to note about e-book readers is that they do not simply represent a more efficient way of carrying out the same process - they change all the rules, for publishers and readers alike. No physical product means that fewer materials are consumed - delivery charges are also very much reduced.

This means that e-books are not only cheaper to publish and deliver, but that they are - even considering the materials used in the e-book readers themselves - more environmentally friendly.

Publishers now have more possibilities for marketing both books and authors. If a publisher wished to highlight a particular author for example, then they could offer samples of their work either at very low prices or completely free. What Parents Need To Hear Before Their Child Starts Preschool

Preschool is a very important time in your child's life. This is a time for them to learn some independence from you. As parents it can be difficult to let our babies grow up but it is not something we can stop so we must adjust. Some parents do not realize it but they are likely to have just as hard a time as their child on the first day at your Frisco preschool. It can be difficult to leave your kid for the first time and it will be just as hard for your child to let you leave them.

You may want to prepare yourself for a tantrum or at least some crying. I'm sure this will make leaving your child even harder but you must do it. When your child becomes upset and starts to cry if you simply take them home and do not leave them they will start to believe that is all it takes to for them to be able to go back home. When children start liking preschool they would still much rather be home with their parents. You should be prepared to be strong. Simply tell your child how much you love him or her and that you will see them soon.

While you are trying to talk to your baby and he or she is crying for you not to leave them it may be hard for you to hold back the tears but it is important that you do. Once you have left it should be perfectly fine for you to call the preschool as much as you want to assure yourself that your baby is alright.

If your kid has continued to throw a fit and be upset then go pick them up. They will not realize that you are picking them up because of the tantrum they threw. Most children do much better on the second day of preschool but if your kid is still upset and screaming don't worry it should get better soon.

The first week is usually the hardest but after that most of the children have started to adjust to the new environment. If your baby still continues to cry when you are dropping them off it is alright. The tantrums and screaming should have died down by the second week.

After some time has passed if your kid continues to cry and be unhappy it might be wise to check into alternatives. You know if your baby is unhappy and if they are then make some changes. Your baby will be a little unhappy in the beginning but that should not continue.

Your child may not be used to being away from you for the entire day and it can often be overwhelming for children. There are some preschools that only have half days this may be something to look into. This is a great way to help your kid adjust before it becomes time to be away from you for a whole day.

There are parents that have found that even if they do not work it can be beneficial to have their children attend daycare one or two days a week for a few short hours. This helps them to adjusted to the idea of being left for an entire day without you. Finding out what works for your kid is important before it gets to be time for them to start kindergarten. The law requires that all children attend school so if your little one is not happy you can not just pull them out.

The Boy on the Bus by Deborah Schupack: What is frustrating is that this novel was full of potential, and Deborah Schupack demonstrates an obvious literary talent. Yet I finished the book very dissatisfied with it. Not only has Meg not learned anything new, but neither had I.

The Clearing by Tim Gautreaux: The Clearing is a tour de force for a new voice in American literature. Tim Gautreaux has written a novel that not only deals with the big ideas, but also with the little, yet important, things that make up human life. In a story that brims with violence in a world threatening to spin out of control, he has written a love story. Randolph's love for his brother, and for his wife, is the shining light that leads to deliverance. The Clearing is not a novel you soon forget.

The Blood of Flowers by Anita Amirrezvani: The plot in The Blood of Flowers flows smoothly and quickly. While not a novel of taut suspense, the threads of the young narrator's life and her relationships with the different women in her life create a literary fabric that might rival the Persian carpets of the story.

The Crazy School by Cornelia Read: Cornelia Read is an exceptional writer. Her mix of characters, both students and staff, all come across as believable with their mixture of defiance, cynicism, hope, and murderous intent. Her dialogue between Madeline and the other characters rings true and carries much of the humor and insights. Madeline's interaction with her troubled and troublesome students makes you wish she was one of your teachers, and ultimately, the students become the people she can trust the most. You won't find a suspenseful thriller in The Crazy School, but I get the sense that's not the main purpose of the novel. Like most successful mystery novels, the characters and their drama carry the story, and Cornelia Read gives us the entertaining gift of Madeline Dare. The Crazy School is a wonderful novel and I'm eager to read whatever Cornelia Read has to offer next.

Bones to Ashes by Kathy Reichs: While the story line in Bones to Ashes can be a bit disturbing, it moved along quickly with enough mystery and plot twists to keep the mind engaged. This is a good book to pick up on a rainy weekend or take to the beach to lose oneself for a while.

The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown: The chapters in The Da Vinci Code are short, usually not more than a couple pages. Most of them end with a cliffhanger that immediately catapults you into the next chapter. So grab this book, sit back, and prepare to be entertained and educated. It's well-written, it's intelligent, and best of all, it's fun.

The Book of Illusions by Paul Auster: This is not a "feel good" book and it's not a story that will keep you turning pages to see what happens next. If you want a book to challenge your thoughts and emotions and perspective on life, then I can recommend it highly. Just don't think you'll put it down with a satisfied smile on your face.

Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay: Ultimately, this is a novel that has more going for it than against it. Dexter is an enjoyable sociopath and the mystery he must solve is a complex and interesting one. Darkly Dreaming Dexter never loses its pace or suspense and contains enough humor and insights to be an engaging novel. Each reader should decide beforehand whether the reservations I've mentioned above would detract from their enjoyment of Jeff Lindsay's mystery, because he's now working on his second Dexter book.

The Fall by Simon Mawer: Simon Mawer has given us a good novel, just not a great one. It can be electrifying and dizzying at one point and then detached and mired in its characters' own lack of inertia the next. A more even novel would have been received better, but The Fall is still an enjoyable read that will leave you guessing the truth until the very end.

December 6 by Martin Cruz Smith: December 6 is a novel that succeeds on many levels. It's an education into the mindset and culture of pre-war Japan. It's an indictment of those beating the drums of war behind their own self-righteousness. Best of all, it's a great story, and the description of Harry's predicament is peeled back layer by layer, and by the end we've come to understand and sympathize with him completely. There's a bit of Harry in all of us, trying to do the right thing while taking advantage of the situation at the same time.

The Highest Tide by Jim Lynch: The Highest Tide is a short book, less than 250 pages, and can be read in one afternoon. Jim Lynch's debut novel spends a wonderful summer with Miles O'Malley and the interesting and peculiar life that abounds in Puget Sound. Take an afternoon and enjoy it for yourself.

His Illegal Self by Peter Carey: His Illegal Self is not an easy story to read, and it's tedious at times waiting for any sense of hope to come to its characters' lives. It's the characters that are the highlight of this novel, though, and Peter Carey's expert handling of their relationships and emotions that binds it all together in a flurry of emotions that buffets the reader as well.

Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim by David Sedaris: It's sentences like that grab your attention with his off-kilter way of telling about his life that makes you want to find out what it's all about. Fortunately, David Sedaris continues to deliver on the promise with more interesting, funny, and thought-provoking parts of his life. Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim is a welcome addition to his private literary genre and a gift to the world that can always use more laughter. My time spent with David Sedaris passed too quickly, but this is a book that can be read again when a dose of laughter is needed. If you haven't read any of his work before, this is a fine place to start. If you're a fan of David Sedaris, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim is one you must read.

Easter Island by Jennifer Vanderbes: Easter Island is a satisfying read that explores the mysteries of the human soul in the most isolated place in the world, the navel of the earth. Both Elsa and Greer find that searching for oneself can be fraught with peril, since no man, or woman, is an island.

Islands of Silence by Martin Booth: The chapters in this novel alternate between the present-day Alec and his story as a young man, striking out on his own as an archaeologist in 1914. The elder Alec tells of the discipline necessary to maintain his silence, the kindly doctor who wants to draw Alec out of his shell, his dreams that content or frighten him, and the horrors and evil he has seen in the past. He is a man most certainly sane, lucid in his thoughts, and convinced of the nature of evil that exists outside of his controlled environment.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer: If you only read perfect novels, then there would be very few books to read at all. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close can be uplifting and soul searing at different times. With the horrors and wounds of the 9/11 attacks still fresh, this novel may hit too close to home for some people. By the end of this book, how that awful day happened for all members of Oskar's family is known, and beyond the pain lies hope, and Oskar is not as alone as he thinks he is. Oskar Schell's story is one to cherish, and perhaps that metaphor for the lost innocence of the world is one we all ought to acknowledge and embrace.

Homeschool Summer Camps provide a place where children can be self-sufficient, and that's a major part of growing up. Camp Councilors model perseverance, listening, teamwork and appreciation of differences. Whereby, helping children set new and standards for their own behavior, in turn brings their new found independence more in line with your at-home teachings.

How do you know you are picking the right camp for your homeschooler? I suggest you first look for a small camp, that can give your child individual attention. Often Home Schooled children get lost in the crowd. When picking a camp do your work in advance this will help ensure that your child has an enjoyable summer.

Summer Camp Benefits home schooled children by providing a wonderful opportunity to socialize with other children in a new and exciting environment. As a parent of a homechooler I realize often socialization is what's missing in a home schooled child. Camp provides long-lasting friendships. Year after year campers return to see their old friends, making camp their summer home. Some children continue on past camper age and then participate as a Counselor in Training. Some even become counselors, passing on the traditions of summer camp.

As our land and our soil become more and more obsolete, another good reason to build a greenhouse is to plant a garden using hydroponics. Hydroponics is used to grow without the use of soil but something more available that can transport nutrients to the roots of the plants.

Lately, there has been some information out about building acreage vertical instead of horizontal which is termed "eco building". It is the concept of building large high rises or using unused office buildings built in glass to house plantations and generate crops. If we can supply healthy food through greenhouse growing for those who normally have climates that don't allow healthy growth, we could feed a nation by building these greenhouse structures up.

Farming with organic fertilizers would banish many problems we have today. By allowing some insects to live and those insects eating the harmful insects that destroy plants is one solution. Without using the harmful chemicals on the crops, and with the use of greenhouses we can see a better result in "green" ecology and living. All of us have great desires to get back to the natural way we were meant to live, without chemicals, harmful harmones injected into our live stock. It is time we do something to change our direction.

The conscientiousness of our economy, green living, and saving the planet are all nice well meaning ideas, but building vertical greenhouses are a great way to conquer all of these giants.

NFL Has No Problem With Cowboys' Video Screen

The Dallas Cowboys are settling into their new $1.15 billion dollar home stadium, but much of the talk in the NFL preseason has been about the massive video screen hanging directly over the field of play. In the opening game in the facility, Tennessee Titans punters hit the screen several time in practice and once during the game. That set off a bit of a controversy about the height of the video screen, with some arguing that the board was hung too low.

On Friday, the NFL Rules Committee sided with Jones, indicating that the board was of adequate height. The league will revisit the issue in the off-season based on what happens during the 2009 campaign.

Jones has maintained that much of the concern is due to the sheer size of the board, which was hung 90 feet off the field of play"5 feet higher than NFL mandated guidelines.

The NFL has ruled that if a ball hit the display during play, the clock will be reset and down will be replayed. The replay official and the coaches will be able to challenge a play involving the video screen.

In a statement announcing the rules surrounding the video board, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell commented on the situation:

"We will continue to address the particular circumstances in Dallas, giving full consideration to the competitive, safety and fan experience issues involved. The Cowboys have been fully cooperative as we have addressed this subject, and we will continue to work closely with the club on a longer term resolution."

On his weekly radio show, Cowboys owner Jones commented on the NFLs ruling:

"I don't see it as ultimately an issue. You can anticipate the ball hitting the board from time to time. There's no reason why this can't be something for punters to deal with very similar to the way you'd deal with the wind in your face or with elements; rain, sleet or snow."

Former Cowboys coach Jimmie Johnson also weighed in on the video board issue:

"If there's anything wrong, it's that people are going to watch the video board and not the game. It is so dominating, but I think it's so cool. I think it's great."

The Cowboys play their final preseason game at the new stadium this Saturday as they host the San Francisco 49ers. Dallas will make their regular season debut at the venue on Sunday, September 20th as the New York Giants provide the opposition.
