Almost everybody wants to borrow money from time to time and it's smart to do your research before jumping into a big situation involving money. Did you know that when you borrow money you could also be reducing the amount of income taxes you have to pay to the government? Surprisingly, not all loan programs are the same when it comes times to look at your tax situation. Many loans can give you a tax credit which lowers the yearly tax you owe and other kinds of loans can give you a tax deduction which lowers your taxable income. Here's a quick guide to what loans may give you for a tax credit, though obviously individual cases will vary.

Student Loans: You can, in many cases, deduct the interest you paid on the loan from your income taxes. Not all student loans are eligible for this, but it's a good way to reduce the taxes you pay, especially if you're a struggling student with a limited income. The interest you pay on most school loans can only be deducted if you make under a certain amount of money, based on your individual filing status.

Home Mortgages: Most home mortgages are set up so that you can deduct the amount of interest you pay on the loan every year. For many taxpayers their home is the biggest purchase they ever make, and paying a home loan can actually be a good way to reduce the amount of money you owe on your federal taxes each year. Since most house loans are set up to be paid over 30 years, that means that buying a house can give you 30 years of potential tax benefits.

Home Equity Loans: If your house is more valuable now than when you bought it then you might be able to take out a home equity loan (sometimes called a HELOC) and deduct the interest you pay on that loan. There are some restrictions about how much of your loan's interest actually qualifies for a tax deduction. You can use a home equity loan for a number of things, you may be able to get additional tax credits by using the money for home improvements. In some case you can even earn tax deductions for using the money to improve your house's energy efficiency. A home equity loan used to improve your dwelling could eventually increase the value of your dwelling and give you even more equity in the long run. For some people part of the cost of a home equity loan can be balanced out with home remodeling tax credits.

Before you apply for any of these loans you may want to talk with your tax professional to make sure the tax benefits pertain to your individual situation. There are, of course, a lot of variables between these loans. Not everyone will be eligible for all the different tax credits that these loans may offer. Sometimes your income, the amount of money you want to borrow and the reason of the loan will limit the amount of money you can deduct from your taxes in any given year. Sometimes applying for the right kind of loan can literally save you thousands of dollars on your income taxes, so it's worth spending a little bit of time to look into what sort of tax deductions you are eligible for.

Various hand movements can cause acceleration of reading speed. We are about to introduce you to several hand movements that will accelerate your reading ability. Try each one and see which suits you best.

BASIC PACING:

The basic pacing movement uses your index finger of your dominant hand, i.e. right handed use right hand, to scan a line by running your finger under the type you are reading. Always turn the page with the unused, non-dominant hand. Don't move your head, keep it still.

The method is easy. You'll replace all your bad habits with one easily learned one: You'll use your pacing hand. Here's how to break each of these habits automatically while increasing your reading speed.

New Years Resolutions: Finances

The United States is struggling with money with a shortage of it to go around. Not enough money is an issue for prospective and current students alike, as they want afford to go to college and be able to ccomplete their education. One of the things the country is struggling with is money. There seems to not be enough to go around these days. This can be a problem for students as they want to go to college and be able to afford it and for current students who want to continue pursuing their education. Try new ways to help plan ahead for the cost of of tuition and expenses.

With the new semester approaching, there are several ways a current college student can save money. With the new semester comes new classes, which means you have to buy new books. These books can add up to hundreds of dollars. One way to cut down these costs could be to buy all of your books used. Personally, I have found that I buy a book brand new and barely use it for class and when I sell it back, I get a fifth of what I paid for it. Trust me, buying used is the way to go. I have also found half.com to be my best friend when it comes to buying books. I usually get all my books for five classes for under $100 total. This will help you save a lot of money in the long run.

For those of you who like to go out dancing at the club, keep in mind that lifestyle can get expensive. I love to dance and would go dancing every night of the week if I could. Unfortunately, it costs money to just enter most clubs. My easy alternative is to gather a lot of my buddies and have a dance party in my dorm room. This allows me to save money for things I actually need and I am still entertained and get exercise like I went to a club.

On that note, you don't have to go out and have fancy dinners every night or spend a lot of money trying to find things to do. Instead, get your friends together for a game night and play board games such as Apples to Apples and Seven Deadly Sins-anything that seems fun and make your friends laugh! Also, you can make your own dinner for you and your friends instead of going out. I usually make pancakes for everybody. It's easy, cheap and delicious! There are a lot of things you can do to save money, so always look for the alternative!

For more expensive financial issues, there are some resources. Many scholarships are available for students to apply for to aid in tuition costs. Most of the time you must write an essay, but that is a lot better than paying $2,000 out of pocket for your education! Also, many of you are probably aware of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You are required to apply for it every school year and it tells how much federal aid you can get toward your school's tuition. It is best practice to fill this out as early as possible.

If you currently work, you should also start saving money just in case of emergencies. It comes in handy when you're in a money crunch.

Calendar - Which Calendar Do You Mean?

In the West, we tend to think that there is only one calendar, but there are dozens of them around the world. And what is more, there were probably hundreds of them previously. All defunct now either because ours is more accurate or because theirs did not fit in with our commercial way of life.

But that does not mean to say that people do not still use those old-fashioned, defunct calendars. Oh, no! Governments have given up their old, traditional national calendars, but in general, country folk still refer to them, even if they can no longer get hold of a printed version. I cannot go into all the calendars here, but I will mention half-a-dozen of them.

Lunar Calendar - There is some indication that early man used chips on bone to record or indicate the passage of time 25,000 years ago, probably calibrated by the Moon's phases. A calendar can be developed based on the lunar cycles; it creates a year of twelve months (the word 'month' is from the word 'moon'), but only 354 days, which is, eleven short of the time it takes the Earth to orbit around the Sun. The Chinese still use a version of the lunar calendar but they resolve this issue by inserting extra moths every now and then to bring 'time' back into alignment with the Sun.

Solar Calendar - The ancient Egyptians were the first people to employ a Solar Calendar, although it could justifiably be called a stellar calendar. The new year began for them when Sirius, the Dog Star, the brightest star in the night sky, rose in the same place as the Sun. This more often than not coincided with the flooding of the Nile. This calendar was of 365 days; twelve months of thirty days and five holy days. Therefore, it was only one quarter of a day off the true year. However, this meant that slowly but surely, the new year did not concur with the flood. Scientists have worked out that this calendar was adopted in either 4241 BC or 2773 BC.

Julian Calendar - In 46 BC , Julius Caesar realized that a number of parts of the empire were using different calendars, so he ordered the dating system to be unified. Sosigenes came up with a calendar of 365 days with an extra day every four years. Therefore, in 46 BC, the longest year on record, Caesar added days to the year to bring it back into alignment with the seasons. 46 BC was 445 days long! The immensity of the Roman Empire ensured that this calendar was the defacto calendar of the Western world.

Julian Day Count - In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII called into being a new calendar, but the year after that Joseph Justus Scaliger introduced a system of counting days, not years. It begins with 1 on January 1st 4713 BC. On this date the Julian and the lunar calendars and the Roman tax dating system all coincided; something that will next happen in 3267. January 1st 2001 was Julian day 2,451,913

Gregorian Calendar - from at least 730 AD, it was noticed that the year from vernal equinox to vernal equinox was short of the 365.25 days in a year. This had the consequence that the date of Easter was moving back. So he dropped 10 days from 1582 by jumping from October 4th to October 15th and proclaiming that century years would only be leap years if they were divisible by 400. Consequently, 1900 was not a leap year, but 2000 was. This is the calendar we still use today.

American Idol Online Watch

Before giving the ranking of the eight winners of the American Idol TV show, I would like to brief you guys something about the American Idol. This is one of the biggest and the most popular TV shows of the United States of America and is regarded as the show of the decade. This is a reality talent show where selected candidates from the entire country perform in front of a panel of judges. At the end of each season of American Idol, one candidate is chosen as the winner and also crowned as the American Idol for that year.

My obvious favorite of the entire American Idol series till date is Kelly Clarkson. Ever since its induction into the television media, I have never witnessed anyone to match Kelly's perfection. She has all that to be a superstar. She is beautiful, graceful and highly talented. Her voice is so cool and her singing talents are highly admired across the world and no wonder she was the winner of the first season of the American Idol series. The popularity chart of Kelly Clarkson is always on the exponential curve which is a clear indication of her talents.

It is time for the real and raw deal. We will discuss about the rankings of the eight winners of the American Idol TV show. The eight winners are Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasio Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, David Cook and Kris Allen respectively. All of these eight winners are unique in their own and my personal ranking of these elite members is not at all an indication of their talents. So, this list of ranking is not to offend anyone and is solely my personal ranking.

The first rank according to me is obviously Kelly Clarkson. She was the winner of the first edition of American Idol and let me tell you that this lady is a seasoned campaigner. She was easily the better of all the other participants in the first season and is also the better of all the other seven winners of the show. She is in a league of her own and is extremely talented. She is the undisputed American Idol according to me and I am hoping that the ninth edition will bring someone better than Kelly. The second place would go to Carrie Underwood, the season four winner. This lady too, was better than most of her competitors and deserves the number two spot. The third and fourth rank would go to David Cook and Kris Allen (season seven and eight winners) respectively. Both were equally good, but I feel that David has a slight edge over Kris.

The fifth rank would go to Mr. Ruben Studdard (season 2 winner). This guy is so cheerful and energetic that he will drive you crazy with his performances. According to me, the sixth rank would go to obviously go to Jordin Sparks. This lady needs special mention because of her charm and wits. I would place Fantasia Barrino at the number seven spot ahead of Taylor Hicks.

The'80's saw a lot of sci-fi Hollywood movies released each year, but none of these movies came close to being as great and magnificent as The Back to the Future movie. The movie was directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by him and Bob Gale. The king of sci-fi Hollywood movies, Steven Spielberg produced the movie.

The movie brought a whole new perspective to time travelling and changed the way people looked at or thought about time travel as earlier everyone only related time travel to the future. But in the movie Marty McFly who is the protagonist meets Dr. Emmet Brown who builds a time machine that takes them into the past and then back to the future.

People who lived in the 80's, kids and adults both, were totally entranced by this new concept and even today many think it is one of the most brilliant sci-fi movie ever. The movie starts with Michael J. Fox who plays Marty and his weird and eccentric friend Dr. Emmet Brown played by Christopher Lloyd trying to work on a futuristic looking car that can time travel.

Dr. Emmet Brown, who Marty refers to as 'Doc', experiments on a lot of different things but is never successful but after testing the time machine car on his dog he and Marty are excited about traveling into the future. But instead of the future due to some error Marty lands in past, in'55, where he gets to meet his parents in their teens. Marty needs to be very cautious as one wrong move in the past can put his existence in the future in jeopardy.

Most kids or adults who watch the movie even today feel that this movie was ahead of its time and is still thought by many as a true science fiction gem. The movie is not only packed with a great storyline and excellent graphics but also the acting is top class by all the stars. Even the dialogues and humor in the movie are unforgettable.

All scenes in the movie are thrilling but the one seen that many people can't erase from their memory is when Marty who is in the past, performs Johnny Be Good to a school crowd who are there for a prom. No one has heard anything like that before and are completely blown away by the music and then stunned by the brilliance.

Doug Liman's The Bourne Identity is a very loose adaptation of Robert Ludlum's novel by the same name. Jason Bourne, the principal character of the film, is actually an anti - hero and due to Matt Damon's memorable performance he has become one of our favorite screen assassin. Critics had already cried out that the film will be a major disaster but I do believe that these people might have gone to hiding now. The Bourne Identity is a major Box Office hit. The film is a highly entertaining action thriller.

The film shows that on a stormy night a young man is pulled out from the cold waters of the Mediterranean Sea by a fishing boat. They all think that the man is dead. But an over inquisitive fisherman with a scalpel finds two bullets in the back and a mini laser device in the hip of the 'dead' man. The laser revealed a Swiss Bank Account number. But the fisherman was wrong. The wet man is not dead and soon finds himself in Zurich. The young man searches through a bank vault and ultimately stumbles upon something that has his name, Jason Bourne (Matt Damon).

As he rummages through all the things he also finds several passports, each one of them with his picture and a huge pile of cash. In the US Embassy Jason learns a few other things too. He has a love interest - Marie who is also his travel assistant and the fact that some guys are after him to kill him. Jason decides to search through the streets of Paris for details about his past life and his true identity. In this mission he is only armed with the cash and his own Martial Arts skills. His love interest, Marie, is always by his side in his exploits. Very soon he finds out that there are two assassination plots devised by CIA.

The Bourne Identity movie is a highly entertaining one and keeps you absorbed with its superb car chases and action sequences. There is nothing clichd about this movie and I can bet that you will find it hard to take your eyes off the screen eve for a second. The good thing about the film is that it does on dwell on the romance between Julia and Matt Damon. The indications are self-explanatory. We have seen a lot of action movies losing steam due to the spotlight on the love part but this is a welcome relief.

The car chase scenes are the highlights of this movie. After a long time we see a film which is so sleek in production. People will not be bored in watching the action sequences as there is a feeling of something new in these scenes.

The two major disappoints in the movie would be the shortened role for Julia Stiles and Clive Owen. The former has nothing to do in the film while Clive has only a couple of good scenes.

This is a movie which is just too good to miss. I mean it will be a real shame if you just walk to your DVD outlet and find out that the movie is out and there is also a huge demand for it. One day Willy makes an announcement that he has hidden 5 golden tickets in the Wonka bars. The five children who get those tickets will tour the chocolate factory and one lucky winner will win a special prize.

Charlie was really lucky as he found the fifth ticket in one of the Wonka bars. He chose his Grandpa Joe to be with him inside the factory. Joe used to work with the factory before it hit rough weather. So the four winners, Charlie and Grandpa Joe enter the factory for the journey of a lifetime.

Charlie was pretty well behaved throughout the tour but the same cannot be said of the other children. They were very naughty and the inevitable happened. Those four were politely shown the door by Willy and Charlie became the winner of the surprise prize - they keys to the chocolate factory. Initially Charlie refused the prize as he was not in favor of staying separate from his family. Wonka too understood how he himself has missed his family while he was too busy with the chocolate factory. He understood that Charlie is the right person to take care of the chocolate factory. On realizing this he allowed Charlie to bring his entire family inside the premises. So we get a wonderful story with a very happy ending.

The film is a big hit with the children. After a long time the children has some good movie to look forward to. We can safely say that despite the insipid performance by Johnny Depp the film manages to set the cash registers ringing. Depp should have given a much better performance but he looks totally disinterested for the better part of the movie.

Among the performances, the less said about Johnny Depp the better. Is he the same Johnny from the Pirates of the Caribbean series? His acting so pathetic that you may be tempted to think that he was not paid at all for this movie! Freddie Highmore as Charlie Bucket, however, proves a better actor than Depp, at least in this movie.

DIY Homemade Solar Panels

As energy prices rise, it is always good to look for cheaper alternatives to slash bills. After initial costs, solar power is energy for free. Getting the kit installed can be pricey though; here are a few tips to help build your own solar panel.

Ahead of anything else, it is important to ensure you have the right tools and equipment. Most importantly of course are the solar cells themselves; spend some time selecting which will be best for you.

There are a few other items needed. Plywood, a length of 1 x1, copper wire, a diode line, batteries and Plexiglas will be required for construction. You will also need a circular saw, screws and screwdriver, caulk, outdoor paint, soldering kit and glue.

The first step will be to draw a grid, suitable to your solar cells, on the plywood, (use them as a template). Having determined the size of the panel by this, you can cut the plywood to size and the fun can really start.

Take your 1 x 1 and cut to size; determined by the size of your plywood panel. The panel should be attached to these using your screws, and applying suitable amounts of caulk and painted with outdoor paint to protect from the elements.

Before applying the cells, they need to be soldered together; using tabs at the back to attach one to the other. This work needs to be very careful, as the cells are very delicate at this point. Once in a suitable series, they can be applied with glue onto your plywood grid.

The copper wire should now be attached from the cell to the electrical system and batteries. To ensure no power is lost in the opposite direction, a diode line will also need to be attached at this point.

The final step is to entirely weatherproof the panel through Plexiglas over the cells. Secure in place with caulk and allow to dry. You have now managed to build your own solar panel.
