Merchants Beware - You Are At risk From Fraudster Using Stolen Credit cards

By Don Reid

Did you know there is a whole sub class of criminal known as "carders"? These low lifes hang out in forums and buy and sell credit card numbers by the thousand. You can easily find them by googling "carders forum".

Carders and fraudsters use stolen credit card information primarily to buy goods and services online from unsuspecting merchants. In 2007 the total they stole from websites was $3.6 BILLION. In 2008 the total will be more than 4 billion.

Most people do not realise the following, but it's dead set true. In a online credit card transaction there are 4 parties. There are the banks, the card company, the card holder and the merchant. The merchant is the ONLY one out of those parties that has any risk in a fraudulent transaction. Not only will the merchant lose the profit and costs for the sale, the card company will also fine the merchant $20. That just adds insult to injury.

The biggest problem online merchants have is they simply do not have a signature from the cardholder and they are unlikely to get it. Without a signature from the cardholder, the merchant is the only party at risk. This is because there is no proof the cardholder authorized the transaction.

One other problem for online merchants is real cardholders who buy goods and services and then later claim they never authorized the transaction. This is a rapidly increasing problem and one I have found some solutions which merchants can use.

What can a merchant do to avoid this problem? Thats a good question and luckily after 13 years of confronting this problem I have produced a step by step solution. You need never be ripped off again. My new book "Merchants Beware and it's companion video will lead you through the easy steps to detecting fraud before its a problem.

How Early Can You Start Home Schooling Your Child?

By Danise B. Keasda

Many parents ask when it is appropriate to begin homeschooling their child. These parents do not consider that homeschooling is in fact a natural process which parents typically begin very early indeed. Although it is not often thought of as homeschooling, a great portion of the interactions you have with your child are in fact educational in nature. When you teach your child their ABCs, you are homeschooling them. Parents homeschool their children all the time without even thinking of it.

If you intend on homeschooling your child, it is really never too early to begin. Homeschooling is more than just choosing a curriculum and teaching it to your child. The wonderful thing about homeschooling is that you have the freedom and flexibility to find out what interests your child and then tailor a learning program to their interests and needs. The thing is, nearly all parents do this, they just don't give it that label.

Early homeschooling can be a rewarding experience. You can read books together, count things, visit museums, write stories and simply explore the world around you. Education is far more than what you can get out of a text book; it is about what you can learn about the world from your own observations and experiences within it.

Interact with your child; as you do so, see what your child is interested in. This can help you to tailor your curriculum and assist your child in setting goals for themselves. You can see what kind of pace is suitable for your child and will keep them interested in learning. Homeschooling is something all parents do; official homeschooling is nothing more than an expansion of this strategy which helps parents to prepare their children for life.

The things you teach your child when they are still quite young can give them a foundation for their educational future, be this homeschooling or traditional classroom education. Every time you help your child to learn, even something as simple as writing a letter to their grandparents, you are helping your child build a love of knowledge and of learning which will serve them well for their entire lives.

Our society has some very set ideas about education ? we think of school as a process which begins in kindergarten at the age of five and continues at least until high school about the age of eighteen. Many parents would prefer that their children instead be allowed to learn at their own pace however ? this is why a lot of parents opt to homeschool their children. Perhaps it's best to ask not when to begin homeschooling your child, but rather where to go next; since as a parent, you already homeschool your child!

California Hiking - you will want to go every weekend!

By Penelope SanMateo

Hiking in California during certain times of the year is so fabulous that you will want to go all the time. You may want to take a weekend or maybe a whole week to see the different places to go. There is hiking available around rivers, glaciers, deserts, the coastline and in the grasslands. Take your pick.

If you choose Mount Tallac you will have a 9.4 mile round trip hike with elevations reaching 9,735 ft. with a gain of 3,255 ft during the hike. Make sure you bring lots of water, you are working hard and your body needs to have the fluids replenished to sustain the healthy level you need for this type of hike. There are both wooded areas and flatlands for you to enjoy on this hike. It is considered to be one of the best hiking trails at Lake Tahoe where you will enjoy the beautiful views from the summit. When you get to the switchbacks toward the top you will experience a real change to hot, just be ready for it.

The Upper Yosemite Falls trail is 7.2 miles round trip with an elevation at the summit of 6,526 ft. The gain is 2,700 ft for this trail. The forested area will give you a cool area to hike in before hitting the flatlands which will give you the first view of the falls. The mist from the falls is a welcome relief from the heat. You have survived one set of switchbacks on the trip here and now you will face another before you reach the summit. This are is the most difficult of the hike with very steep inclines. If you are in super physical condition you won't have a problem (although it will challenge you) but if you aren't you may want to avoid the end of this hike by turning back earlier.

Enter the wonders of the desert with the heat and lack of water on the hike in Mosiac Canyon. Although the trail is just 2.5 miles round trip you will think you went further due to the climate conditions. After all, this is the hottest place in the US so it's a challenge. Bring plenty of water to rehydrate yourself on this hike, you'll need it. You might see some desert wildlife as you view the stunning designs nature created on the formations of the canyon walls.

If you want the most challenging trail in California you will want to hike Mt. Shasta. This trail is 12 miles round trip with body assaulting climbs. Not only is the climb a challenge physically but at an elevation of 14,179 ft at the summit and a gain of 7,259 during your climb you are going to experience pain you only thought about before. You need to plan this hike for between May and mid July due to the changing weather. In the spring the storms can hit quickly and violently and in the summer you are facing lava rocks that are nasty on your body and feet and the risk of rolling boulders that have come loose with the snow melt that will roll down the mountain and your chances of getting out of the way are limited at best. Not only that but you will face the problem of altitude sickness so be sure you hike with a partner for safety reasons and practical sense. You must be in superior physical condition to take on this challenge. If you aren't, find another path to hike.

Mt. Shasta offers you a different type of hike. You will want to bring your sunscreen, sunglasses, an ice axe and shelter. Since you won't have much warning if the weather is going to turn on you take the shelter to offer protection when, and if, you need it. Bring along your crampons, helmet, summit pass, and winter boots and wear extra layers of cloths, and again, plenty of water. Don't plan on drinking snow melt around Helen's Lake since it is contaminated by human and animal urine...yummy!

Half Dome is a 16 mile round trip hike with an elevation gain of 4,800 ft to the elevation of 8,842. This is a great hike for between late May and early October. Because of the location, view and degree of difficulty people from all over the world come to hike at Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. This is a day hike that challenges you so if you aren't prepared with a great degree of fitness and lots of experience pass on this one. The climb through the switchbacks is rocky so be careful not to injure an ankle. If you reach the top of Nevada Falls (the halfway point) you will want to assess your skills and ability to continue on as well as adjust to the altitude change. To continue on be prepared to have a very steep, excruciatingly long climb to the back of the Half Dome rock. This is a most difficult climb with more switchbacks continually assaulting your body. If you have done your research you know about the Half Dome cables but you can't know the shock and fear experienced once you are in front of them until you are there. Now you need to reevaluate your physical condition to see if you are up to the risks involved in continuing up. The view from there is terrific with Yosemite Valley below, but make sure you are ready for this type of challenge before you even begin the hike. It isn't for the weak or physically unprepared.

Bogus Online Bachelor Degrees - How Can You Tell?

By Mary Jackson

Along with the growing popularity of obtaining an online Bachelor degrees, many bogus schools have cropped up to cash in, taking advantage of potential students seeking a genuine education to maintain their current level of employment, or achieve specific career goals. Unfortunately, the sales pitch attracts many students who do not possess the time, or the finances, to gain a college education. The main selling points may include easy graduation, no tests or end of semester exams, credit for life experiences, and lower tuition fees. Some diploma mills even have the audacity to make money through bulk emails offering to sell university degrees.

So, how do prospective students determine whether an online college is accredited or only offering bogus online Bachelor degrees? Especially for International students, it can be very difficult to determine a school's validity. In most cases it is impossible for distance learners to visit the campus, so the website is the only point of contact before making the choice and enrolling, which makes it hard to determine credibility.

The first thing to do is to verify the type of accreditation the college claims to have. Only 6 government agencies have been given the authority by the U.S. Department of Education, to award accreditation to colleges and universities offering online Bachelor degrees. Therefore, if a site brags about worldwide or nationwide accreditation, beware. Unless they specifically name the agency, chances are they are not a legitimate institution of higher education.

The six accreditation agencies given the authority to grant college and university accreditation are entrusted with governing the institutions within their geographical section of the United States as follows: New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), North Central Association of Schools and Colleges (NCA), Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges (MSA), Southern Association of Schools and Colleges (SACS), Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges (NWCCU). With specific states for each agency, it is easier to check whether an online learning facility is accredited and registered.

Another important clue to illegitimacy is mass-emails or mail offering degrees for sale. There are cases of online Bachelor degrees, Masters, or even online Doctorate degrees being obtained by a fixed tuition rate. Some bogus colleges even have the audacity to promise a degree in the mail within 7 days. These unethical businesses take advantage of people who must have a degree in order to get a decent job, or keep the one they have in the first place. However, others take big steps to appear above board and genuine. Displaying evidence of accreditation from a bogus website makes the "school" look real. But, unless one of the 6 authorized agencies is mentioned, it may not be an accredited school. In addition, the only way to earn a college degree is by honest hard work and dedication. If a site offers credit for life experiences, travel, work experience, educational background, or even the amount of books read in the past, rest assured it may not be an institute dedicated to qiality, legitimate and excellent learning.

In conclusion, as the awareness on bogus degrees increases amongst prospective employers, degrees obtained through a legitimate avenue of education can sometimes be mistaken for bogus online bachelor degrees too. Therefore, the best approach to select a college would ideally be based on legitimate college accreditation awarded by the appointed authorities to the respective colleges.
