As a big fan of both The Beatles and of reading, I have read a huge amount of books on The Beatles. In fact, I really have no idea how many I've read at this point. But I know it's a lot more than the seven books I'm listing here. My point is that these seven great Beatles books are not randomly selected, they are the Beatles books that really stand out among the many that I have read.
The Beatles as Musicians: The Quarry Men through Rubber Soul - This book takes a deep look at The Beatles music from before they were The Beatles all the way through 1965's classic, Rubber Soul. Unlike many books on The Beatles the "Beatles as Musicians" books are focused entirely on the music.
The Beatles as Musicians: Revolver through the Anthology - I love both of the "Beatles as Musicians" books but I must say that this one is my favorite. My five favorite Beatles albums were all released during this period (The White Album, Sgt. Pepper, Revolver, Abbey Road, & Magical Mystery Tour.)
Revolution in the Head - This book by the late Ian MacDonald includes a close look (some much closer than others) at every song The Beatles have released (including those released on the Anthology discs.) It also includes an essay titled "Fabled Foursome, Disappearing Decade" which includes a lot of opinions that I very strongly disagree with, but which I still found interesting to read.
The Beatles Complete Scores - Along with the usual musical notation, this book includes guitar tabs, bass guitar tabs, and drum tabs. It features every single song The Beatles released in the 1960s.
Lennon Revealed - I think I've probably read 4 or 5 books on John Lennon but I can't really remember any of them clearly except this one. This is a great book that really makes you feel like you're there with John.
Here, There, & Everywhere: My Life Recording The Beatles - This one will probably be most interesting to those who are really interested in the recording process of the band although there is a lot of stuff in here that isn't overly technical. Right now this is among my very very favorite books on The Beatles. I just think it's extremely interesting.
Recording The Beatles - This massive book cost me $100 but I think it was worth the cost! The amount of detail on the gear The Beatles used to record their music (and how they used that gear) is amazing. This is definitely a book for those really serious about music (really it's aimed at those who record music themselves.)
