I spend a good chunk of my day visiting cooking websites and looking for those hidden gem recipes that will knocks my socks off. Lately, I've seen a lot of advertisements for Ron Douglas' ebook "Americas Most Wanted Recipes." I searched for a review of the book, but all of them seems like sales pitches. I couldn't believe nobody has 1 bad thing to say about it. So, I figured I'd have to do my own review
Who Uses Cookbooks These Days?
Cookbooks are a thing of the past! I know that's a pretty bold statement and probably a bit of an exaggeration, but think about it, how often do you look up a recipe in a cookbook rather than on your computer? If you're like me, you store most of your favorite recipes online or in a database on your computer. It makes it easier to find and even adjust the quantity of your recipes. Sure, there are some old favorites I still have in book form, but they're slowly moving over to the virtual world.
If you've tried more than a couple dozen online recipes, you know first hand that there are some BAD recipes online. I have even gone back and looked at the recipe to make sure I didn't measure something wrong or use the wrong ingredient. It's rare, but it does happen. It's a risk you take when you search for online recipes.
What makes the recipes in America's Most Wanted Recipes different? It's what I call a 45,000 member test lab. Ron Douglas has a cooking website with over 45,000 members who will try out and recommend changes to all of the recipes he and other post. After it's gone through a few hundred test runs, the odds of you liking it greatly increase. Sometimes all it takes is a minor tweak here or there and it's fine. Other times the entire recipe needs to be ditched and started over.
Are The Recipes I Want Included?
OK, I knew the recipes would at least be good. But, what if there wasn't anything I liked? Well, a quick glance at the recipes in volumes one and two convinced me. PF Chang Chicken Lettuce Wraps, Olive Garden Lasagna, Boston Market Macaroni and Cheese, Cracker Barrel Fried Apples, and even Wendy's Chili. There's hundreds of other recipes from restaurants like Red Lobster, Sizzler, Ruth Chris Steakhouse, KFC, IHOP, Cheesecake Factory, Applebee's, Chili's, TGI Fridays, Starbucks and more.
Doing Business with Ron Douglas
When you first click on a link to go to Ron Douglas website, you may be a little disappointed. There's no fancy graphics or Madison avenue design. In fact, I felt a little turned off by it because I felt like I was being SOLD something rather than TOLD about something. There are all these testimonials and yellow highlighted sentences. Even the pictures of the book looked a little off to me. If it's a digital book, why do people try to make it look like a real book? I did find a list of the recipes included and I clicked on the purchase button. I was very surprised with how well things went from there. I even had the book on my computer within seconds.
Have you seen those websites that offer you one thing and then when you go to buy it, they offer you 3 or 4 more items at a small additional cost? It becomes very annoying and is a real turn off to me. I didn't have to deal with that when I bought America's Most Wanted Recipes. There was no additional cost for anything but Ron Douglas did throw in some bonuses (for free). A cookbook with kid friendly recipes and one for people with diabetes. He even included volume 2 of his main book and some smaller books on grilling, comfort foods, and one to use at special occasions. Thanks Ron for not trying to make a few extra dollars on these!
Things I Didn't Like
OK, every review I've read about Ron Douglas book has nothing but good things to say about it. But, I know there's no such thing as perfect product. What part of the book was going to disappoint me? To begin with, I didn't find any pictures in the book. Not to disappointing since I knew what they should all look like before I even started to cook them. But it would have helped. He also could have given a bit more detail on some of the recipes. For the most part, the things he left out could seem obvious, but it's always good to have the details spelled out "just in case." Anything lacking in the book, I found at his members only website. Fortunately a lifetime membership is included with the book purchase.
Is It Worth Your Money?
If you purchased this book today, I don't think you'll be disappointed. It's definately worth the price. You'll recover this in savings from just a few meals eaten at home rather than at the actual restaurant. I was very satisfied with the book and find myself referencing it regularly. If for some reason you find it's not worth what you paid for it, Clickbank is the third party business you make the purchase through and they'll make sure you have a full 60 days to request a refund.
When you consider the fact that you're getting two volumes of recipes, several bonus books and membership to Rons exclusive website, you'll see this is a very good deal. I had no buyers remorse and actually was quite satisfied with the cost to benefit.
