Book Review of "The Message" by Lance Richardson

By Christopher Loch

After dying in a motorcycle accident, Latter-day Saint author Lance Richardson was brought back to life by emergency medical personell. While doctors and nurses fought to keep him alive, Lance was being welcomed into the world of spirits by his family members who had gone before him.

During his time there Lance reveals some fascinating insights into the place our spirits go after we die and the ones who live there:

1. Telepathy is the standard mode of communication with other Spirits including animals and plants.

2. Beasts like lions are totally harmless..

3. The spirits of our deceased ancestors can (and often do) come to our aid here on Earth.

4. Earth and the Spirit World exist in the same place but in different dimensions.

During his stay in the Spirit World Lance is told that his spirit will eventually be reunited with his body back on Earth so that he can relay a very important message. Here are the takeaways of The Message:

1. God, our Heavenly Father, loves his children more than we can ever understand.

2. The Founding Fathers were inspired to create a land where freedom of religion in possible. America is destined to become the home of the New Jerusalem, the Zion of the latter days. God will protect America as long as she honors and serves Him. If America does not turn back to God her people will be destroyed.

3. America's source of strength are the morals and ideals of her inhabitants.

4. America rejects that truth is eternal and accepts that truth is relative.

5. The family is the center of society and if we hope to save our country we must strengthen it.

6. Service is more important than we realize. In fact, it is how everything is done in the Spirit World. When people serve each other, both are edified and their hearts are turned towards God. Through this proecess our country can be transformed into Zion one family and on city at a time.

This 187 page book is both fascinating and uplifting. I highly recommend it to those who have ever wondered what happens to our souls after the lights go out. I have given my original copy to a friend who lost his wife in a car accident.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I did not discern anything from Brother Richardson's account that was against the traditionally accepted LDS Church doctrine on the Spirit World. I can honestly say after reading this book that my (totally natural) fear of death has been replaced with curiosity and fascination with what lies waiting for all of us on the other side.
