Searching for college scholarships on the internet is extremely simple. Enter "scholarships" into the search box, enter, and there you have it, a long list of websites to choose from. That's all you need to do, right? WRONG! This is a mistake that every college bound high school student makes and I will tell you exactly why.
As the internet became the easiest way to find information many years ago, students have become experts at using online resources to search for and find scholarships. Although this may seem like the fastest and easiest way to find scholarship to apply for, using the internet is only one way that scholarships are discovered. Students believe that they are finding all the scholarships they should apply for by simply entering, "scholarships" into their browsers. What they don't realize is that there are a TON of other scholarships out there for them to find and many of them are not listed on the internet! Don't make this mistake!
When students start their scholarship searching, they need to realize that there are many resources out there besides the internet. The sources with the most up-to-date information are the big scholarship listing books. These books list scholarship opportunities by the student's intended college major, hobbies, race, interests, club affiliation, and so much more. Surprisingly, students will find scholarships listed in these books that are NOT found online! Since these books are updated and come out with new versions yearly, their information is more current than the majority of scholarship searching websites found online!
In addition, there are lists of local scholarships found in high school guidance counselors offices (and you don't have to be a student at that school to get their lists!), state sponsored scholarship opportunities, and many more ways to find scholarships.
How did I discover this information? When my own son was a senior in high school, I went through the process of finding and applying for scholarships with him. We utilized the big scholarship listing books and as a result, he won over $20,000 in college scholarships! From the books, we were able to find scholarships none of the scholarship searching websites found for him yet signed up for every single online scholarship searching website that we could find. We used all the scholarship searching sources that you read about here and even more that I did not mention.
After my son had so much success and I began to tell people about the methods we came up with to apply for scholarships, I created http://www.how2winscholarships.com Feel free to visit and learn what you need to win college scholarships!
