Mike Newall has proved himself again with Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, the fourth installment in the series, which he has managed to recreate successfully on the big screen. The world of Harry that so far existed only in the minds of the many readers all around the world has been effectively portrayed by the actors and propped up by awesome graphics and an intriguing plot. The fussiest of Harry Potter fans will have to admit they like this well-made movie after watching it.
The Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire movie takes Harrys story forward into an increasingly dark realm. The movie like the book places an emphasis on sports depicting both the Quidditch World cup at the start as well as the ongoing Triwizard Tournament at Hogwarts throughout the movie. Both events end ominously. Harry, despite being underage, is chosen by the Goblet of fire to participate in the tournament and is therefore put into situations of mortal danger. The near fatal events spool out leading Harry closer to the eventual meeting with Voldemort in person.
All the new characters introduced in the fourth book of the series have been brilliantly cast by the casting directors. Mad Eye Moodys role has been spectacularly rendered by Brendan Gleeson while Miranda Richardson (of The Hours fame) has pulled off a remarkably neat portrayal of the tabloid journalist Rita Skeeter. Ralph Fiennes, however, shines the most in his brilliant depiction of the fearsome and evil Lord Voldemort.
Daniel Radcliffe (who plays Harry Potter), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley), and Emma Watson (Hermoine Granger) all appear to have grown up a lot more and the improvement in terms of their acting talents is remarkable. They manage to depict the strong bonds of friendship that binds the three main characters of the series with ease though there are situations in which they fall a bit short. Michael Gambon, Robbie Coltrane and Alan Rickman who play Albus Dumbledore, Rubeus Hagrid and Severus Snape are as delightful as ever. Rickman deserves a special mention for his well nuanced portrayal of Professor Snapes complex persona.
Both the Cinematography and the special effects of the movie have contributed a great deal to the enjoyment of the movie which appears wholesome and can stand alone. In spite of this, fans will notice that many characters present in the book such as the Dursleys and Winkie are missing in the movie. This is chalked up to the time restraints of the movie which is already longer than other English films. Regardless of whether youre a Harry Potter fan or not, there are many reasons why youll enjoy this movie.
