By Adriana Noton

A job as an accountant is a very lucrative career. According to the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Statistics, "employment of auditors and accountants is expected to grow between 18 and 26 percent annually through 2014." This is a great time to find a career as a professional accountant. If you have graduated from college and are looking for an accounting job, there are few things you can do to narrow down your search.

The following are a number of tips to winning an accounting job:

1. You need to figure out what kind of accounting job you want. There are three types of accounting career areas when one completes an accounting degree. They are: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and Certified Management Accountant (CMA). With a Bachelor's degree you can earn on average about $43,269, and with a Master's degree, you can earn on average about $46,251. Find out which area you find appealing and what you have to do to get certified in that particular area of accounting.

2. Before you start your job search, you have to figure what type of work and work environment twill make you happy. Would you like to work for the government, corporation, bank, small business, charity, etc? Knowing what you want to do will help you narrow down your job search.

Each work environment will have its own advantages so you just have to choose the one that you will enjoy. This may involve looking at your education, experience, and your own personal interests.

3. To find a lucrative accounting job, you can search online job banks and your local newspaper. Many corporations and businesses make use of these places when they have a job opening. However, if you want to take the headaches associated with searching for the right accounting job, use the services of a professional job recruiting agency. They have access to prestigious employers and often to jobs that are not advertised in traditional places. They can help you narrow down your search and match you with the right job and right employer that meets your needs.

4. There a number of quality sites on the web devoted to helping professionals find jobs. There are also job sites that focus on accounting jobs. This will help you save time when searching as you may find exactly what you are looking for just by entering a few key words in the site's search engine.

5. Check with government job vacancies on government websites. As well, check your local employment agency. Many companies will post their job openings in these agencies. You should be able to find a great accounting job if you have the right qualifications and education.

Finding an accounting job does not have to be difficult and time-consuming task. When you find a position you are interested in, make sure you have professional resume and cover letter. By searching the right places, having a stellar resume, and preparing for the job interview, it may not be long before you land your dream accounting career.
