Climate and Seasons In Brief

By John Henders

Human activities have always been monitored by the most basic of physical phenomena that takes place in the world; climate. Climate is the something around which the human activities have evolved over time, since the beginning of civilization. It is not just the various recreational activities that man takes part in that depends on the various seasons, various important vital activities like agriculture and fishing all depend on the various seasons and the climatic changes taking place. Even the smallest of the changes in the cycle of seasons can also give rise to natural disasters like flash floods and long droughts.

The first season that comes to our minds normally is the rainy season. Although in the urban world, it normally calls for windproof umbrellas and polythene raincoats, it is a period that is welcomed in the rural community, where agriculture plays an important role in the livelihood of the people inhabiting these rural areas. A spell of no rain or excess rain can easily spell disaster.

The season which comes next in the list would be the spring. It has always been the season of fertility, joy and fruitfulness. It is during this time that flowers bloom, fruits grow and everything is full of vigor and life.

Winter brings with it a picture of snow covered houses, snowball fights, snowmen and Christmas trees. Even though winter is frigid and dry, it is one season that people look forward to celebrate the various festivals that are celebrated all over the world. In most places, it also marks the end of the year and the beginning of a new one; an occasion that is joyously celebrated everywhere.

The summer is the hottest and the driest of all seasons. The heat is more in countries nearer to the Equator and towards the colder countries that lie nearer the poles, it is merely a time that brings respite and relief from the frost that otherwise covers these regions for most of the times.
