Are Newsgroups Dangerous

By Sam Garnebo

Here are somethings you need to know to protect your children from newsgroups:

In the past they were bulletin boards, now they are online news groups that are used as open forum for people who share like interests. You can read or post your own messages or even upload or download content.

The more popular forums will address a variety of topics ranging from politics and economics or such things as the latest video game or sea creatures. Newsgroups can be either more limited or open to any subject that exists.

These forums allow you to access anything that anyone has posted and give you the opportunity to respond to it. Well over 100,000 of these forums esist with an estimated 20,000 of them being active. To most these newsgroups appear to be harmless and so are entered as a good means of communication. However, parents need to be aware that very real dangers hide in these sites for their children.

Why Newsgroups are Unsafe for Children

Similar to online communities , newsgroups also possess the mentality that there are no restraints to what can be posted. For example, stories can be posted that include child molestation or even promote it.

Whether we admit it or not the truth exists that forums are sespools for pedophiles to collect in and share their horrible pornography or any other dispicable thing. Swimming in this "pool" has been reported the illegal drug organization as they seek out new connection for trade. This should be enough to cause any parent to keep their children as far away as possible from this.

Parents that have children that frequently go online need to be very concerned with these newsgroups. No one supervises these sites which allows for anything to be said. A kid wanting to discuss school work could very easily find themselves in a conversation filled with inappropriate content.

Children are easily allowed to view horrible content like sex, pornography, hate and racism along with much more, they only need to find a computer capable of getting online and visit any number of newsgroups. This kind of content made known to a child can damage them emotionally and, or cause them to seek after deplorable and criminal activities.

Besides that, your kid could download explicit content and hide it from you. Again, anyone can make a phony profile and attempt to contact your child, so they can lure your child out of the house. These are just a few main reasons to be cautious of these internet sites. Please love your child enough to protect them from possible danger.

Newsgroups need to be said no to:

There are countless twisted individuals in the world, and the internet makes the perfect hiding place. For all the parents who are concerned about the dangers of newsgroups and similar online communities, we offer these three tips to help keep your children safe:

1.) Keep your child's activity in online forums limited. If they are a part of such a community, make sure it is being moderated accordingly and that the topics are appropriate.

2.) You can make sure your child understand the dangers of putting photos or personal information on these sites.

3.) Internet filtering software can restrict your children entirely from these social communities. Newsgroups and other sites that may contain undesired material can be filtered out by you using a filter.

The first step to protect your children is understanding the danger of newsgroups. Making sure action is taken to keep them from wickedness that hangs around these forums will help keep them safe.
