Spanning New Distances: Distance Education

By James Gilbert Pynn

Continuing education is a tremendous feat of time management. Though making time after work to attend a college campus is still popular with aspiring students, for most it is completely impractical. Though correspondence courses were once derided as scurrilous, today, with the proliferation of the Internet, they are enjoying a profound resurgence. Instant access, qualified instructors and the freedom of choosing when to study are powerful factors with regards to distance education's new prestige.

Among the slew of online schools, it seems Ashworth College has carved out a niche for itself. The college boasts more than 50 degree programs, including associate, bachelor and master level degrees in an array of fields. The accredited coursework can be a valid and time-saving means to transfer to traditional schools or to obtain a fully accredited degree outright.

The future belongs to individuals who can improve their education levels. Higher degrees invariably mean higher salaries. Candidates are continually screened by means of their educational backgrounds. Should an employer choose between one candidate with a Masters degree and one with an Associates, the choice is clear. And indeed, an employee with an advanced degree should, by all rights, be earning more than a candidate with a lesser degree.

As John Lennon once remarked: life is something that happens to you while you're busy making other plans. Don't let the opportunity to better yourself and better your salary slip through all those wasted hours. Between dinner and bedtime, between getting home and dinner, on the weekends -- the future is for the taking. The same old excuses tend to be just that: excuses.

Self-betterment is something that must be worked towards. We are seldom gifted anything. A distance education academy, like Ashworth College or PCDI, can help fill in the gaps, stopping a dedicated student from losing precious time. Work and family are not obstacles, they are responsibilities and managing both of these responsibilities can be a full-time job in and of itself. Invest the stray hours and minutes and before long, you will have accumulated the necessary credits and grades to succeed.
