Is It Always A Good Idea To Go To College?

By Sheila Johnson

After high school, every student has a big decision to make and that is whether to move on to college or to try and get a job. Actually, this decision must be made much earlier, as in order to get into college you must apply and be accepted. It is the time in your life where you have to make some big decisions.

Some high school graduates have already set their eyes on college, while others want to immediately take on the bigger world and start working. If you are torn between these two options, perhaps it will do you good if you weigh the pros and cons of college life. College isn't for everyone but it is usually the right choice if you can afford it.

It is true that a college education will most likely open up some employment opportunities in the future and many employers require a degree from a university. Another reason in favour of the college route is that historically college graduates make more money than non-college graduates. The long terms benefits of college are obvious but you will be trading immediate income for possible higher income later on.

Other reasons why college is the preferable path for many include it helping shape their development and identifying possible career goals and choices. College also aids in the interpersonal skills of these students who are transitioning from young adults to adults. College is the right choice for most young adults for these reasons and more.

The cost of college education is another reason why some high school graduates prefer to work right after high school. You can educate yourself in many different ways, and this does not cost a thing. The whole world is your school. You are also not limiting yourself to just one career because you learn the things that you are passionate about at your own pace.
