Time for Cutliffe to Make a Decision

By Evan Minarch

David Cutcliffe pulled off a clever coaching decision by swiftly announcing Sunday that Thad Lewis would be his starter for this week's matchup with the Kansas Jayhawks.

But I have simply one issue with the way Cutcliffe went about this. It chiefly is such a slight thing and I hesitated to even bring it up, although felt bound to do it.

Cutcliffe stated Lewis was one of several players who had caught the flu and missed practice time.

If you tell me Lewis is a hero, I am okay with that, essentially because I do not have a say in the matter and you can care less what my opinion is. Although there's also the fact that you are the head coach/qb authority and identify more than I will ever know about that position.

There is no need to tell me Lewis is not one hundred percent.

He noticeably claimed he didn't want to cause a quarterback debate, however, as the majority of people recognize, quarterback controversies nine times beyond ten are started by enthusiasts and media, not coaches.

If a qb controversy manifests as a result of Renfree's great play and Lewis' not so nice play then cope with it if the questions turn up.

While I agree with his decision and swiftness of it he could have opened up a undersized door for criticism of his starter.

If Lewis does not perform favorably at Kansas then Cutcliffe will certainly be hit with questions about whether or not Lewis is one hundred percent and if he is not, why isn't Renfree playing in the game?.

So with respect to the coach's well being I hope Lewis steps up and wins or has a nice game, because the last thing the team needs at present in the wake of the great motivator of defeating Army is a controversy.

Simply ask Coach K if you're in search of a second opinion. He has had to cope with 1 or 2 of the type.
